During televised Buffalo Bills home games, the TV crews always show one of two things when they're coming back from a commercial break: Niagara Falls and a chef preparing a platter of Buffalo wings. As the announcers drool over how good they look, someone usually mentions that the wings are from the Anchor Bar — the Buffalo chicken wing originator. Now those same wings have a home on East Avenue, not far from the Bills' summer home, St. John Fisher College.

The place
This is the Anchor Bar's third location and its first outside of Buffalo. The Anchor Bar on East Avenue, Rochester, has a similar feel to the Anchor Bar on Main Street, Buffalo, but the Rochester location also has Amerks, Rhinos, Knighthawks and RazorShark jerseys lining the walls.

Something in blue
While the downstairs features a bar and main dining area, the upstairs has a mellower vibe. "We call it the blue room, because that's the color they painted the walls" says manager Jeanne DiNatale, 21, of Rochester. "It's kind of more for people who don't want a noisy bar, or want room to relax/watch football." There also are TVs and dart boards upstairs, and the space can be rented for private parties.

Same as the original
The Rochester location has a different owner (Mike Collichio) than the Anchor Bars in Buffalo, but the food will still be the same. "We have to follow the same ingredients, the same recipes ... everything has to be cooked the same way," DiNatale says.

The orders were flying
Rochester's Anchor Bar served 6,000 pounds of wings from opening day on Sept. 3 through Labor Day.
