Although it has only been open for a little more than a month, MacGregors’ Grill and Tap Room brings its own flair to the Rochester bar scene with a new location near the corner of East Avenue and Alexander Street.

MacGregors’ replaces the Anchor Sports Bar and Grill, which opened in 2009 and closed earlier this year.

There are four other MacGregors’ locations in the Rochester area (Gates, Penfield, Canandaigua and Henrietta).

The place: There certainly is no shortage of entertainment; nearly 40 TVs are placed throughout the building and a steady stream of contemporary music blares from a satellite radio.

That said, the bar and grill offers three different backdrops for guests.

The first floor offers a full bar and dining seating. Also on the first floor are a touch screen juke box and an electronic dart board.

The second floor is more intimate (and a little quieter) with five TVs. Outdoor seating is available in front of building, facing East Avenue.

The crowd: After 8 p.m., the establishment will only allow customers who are 21 and older to enter, but children accompanied by their parents are able to dine in. On a recent Thursday evening the crowd ranged from mid-20s to early 40s.

The food: MacGregors’ offers a full menu, including salads ($6.99 to $9.99), soups, chili and stews ($3.29 to $8.99), handcrafted pizzas ($11.99), wings (4.99 to 29.99), charbroiled steak burgers ($9.99 with a side) and more. Popular menu items include the MacGregors’ slow-roasted signature sandwiches (9.99 to 12.99, including a side).

The drinks: MacGregors’ Grill and Tap Room tries to live up to its self-proclaimed title as “a beer lover’s paradise,” offering more than 60 beers on tap.

The diverse beer selection includes ales, lagers, porters and more. This month’s drink special features Great Lakes Brewing products: Commodore Perry IPA, Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, Eliot Ness Amber Lager and Burning River Pale for $3.50 a pint.
