It may be called One, but this chic Rochester hot spot has a dual personality.
The Place
Located on Ryan Alley off of East Avenue, One Restaurant and Lounge is part club, part eatery. In fact, it has two Web sites — one for its American bistro-inspired restaurant and one for its late-night club.
The first floor is the restaurant, which has a full bar and is decorated in a dark, tropical theme. Upstairs, to the right, is the dance floor. Like a scene out of a Las Vegas promotional video, the posh club room has black and white décor, including white chandeliers, black leather couches and LED-light accents. The upstairs area also has a full bar, food service and recently opened roof-top deck.
New for summer
Chef Collin McDonald is working on an open-air kitchen for One's roof-top deck. Right now, One serves dinner from 5 till 9 p.m. nightly, but on Fridays and Saturdays a limited menu is offered after 9 p.m. till 12:30 a.m.
If you only come to drink, you'll be happy to hear the drink menu has changed. One management listened to its customers and in response has lowered the drink prices in the downstairs bar. Also, starting in about a month, One will launch Reggae Sundays, featuring Jamaican food, Red Stripe specials and a live reggae DJ.
Who's dizzy?
Three nights a week, One features regular DJs. Here's the schedule: Ed Santiago and Jeff Clarkson spin house music on Thursdays, Jon Herbert spins house, hip-hop and Top 40 remixes on Fridays, and Jay Mora (aka DJ Starpusher), Santiago and DJ California spin Top 40 remixes on Saturdays.
