Barhopper: Otter Lodge
The Otter Lodge, a sports bar with a vaguely nautical theme, draws NFL fans and dart players.

The inside of the Otter Lodge on Monroe Avenue in Brighton looks like a mixture of sports bar and fisherman's cabin. The walls are lined with sports jerseys, and the mantle above the bar displays the Coors Light banners of every NFL team. A pair of oars and an Otter Lodge logo carved in wood also are affixed to the walls. And the owner's office is labeled as the "Captain's Quarters." Not to worry, though: You won't find an otter tank here or a crazed fisherman hiding in the basement — just plenty of beer, liquor and sports entertainment.

The place:

With 19 televisions, the Otter Lodge is a great place to catch an NFL game. During the winter, a small electric fireplace adds warmth.

The crowd:

College kids (mostly from St. John Fisher and Nazareth) and older residents make up the clientele. The crowd is "very, very mixed," says bartender Van Chevalier, 39, of Rochester. "On weekends we can have people anywhere from 21 to 50."

Below deck:

A room downstairs can be reserved for private events, like bachelor/bachelorette parties, surprise parties, showers, rehearsal dinners and fantasy football drafts.

Bull's-eye:

Known as the place to shoot darts, the bar has several dartboards. Plaques recognizing past champions line the walls leading to the room downstairs. The Otter Lodge also offers the arcade shooter Big Buck Safari.

Wet your whiskers:

Otter Lodge has 18 beers on draft, and one of them is exclusive to the bar. Custom BrewCrafters in Honeoye Falls stocks the bar with its own IPA — the Wet Whiskers Ale. "It's very popular," Chevalier says of the hoppy brew. "We sell out of it a lot."
