The Duck has been Rehabbed. Rehab Lounge has opened in the spot once occupied by The Angry Duck, and, like any successfully rehabilitated patient, seems more laid-back and relaxed.
The place: Located next to the Pittsford Seafood Market on Monroe Avenue in the city, the establishment's basic layout hasn't changed — a wooden bar runs almost the full length of the left-hand wall, and there's additional seating, a pool table and dart boards to the right as you enter. More high bar tables have been added, as well as a working fireplace and comfy leather lounge chairs.
Owner Scott Cresswell previously was an investor in The Angry Duck, but he took control of flipping it into Rehab. "It's a whole new brand, from the vibe to the people," he says. "We're looking for a nice, more neighborhood place for young professionals."
The crowd: During a recent visit, there was a solid mix of the old Duck contingent, a younger crew blaring Kid Rock while watching an MMA fight, and an older group of professional gentlemen, wrapping up a happy-hour birthday celebration.
The drinks: A full bar with the usual domestic suspects on tap, as well as nightly specials. On a recent Saturday night, Rehab featured $2 Labatt Blue, Blue Light and Miller draft specials, $2.50 Heineken and Corona bottles, $5 select pitchers and a $6 "Rehab Fix," a domestic pint and call shot. Nightly specials are displayed on a marker board at the far end of the bar and on the Rehab Lounge Facebook page.
The food: There are no plans to serve it, but Rehab Lounge does work with its Monroe Avenue neighbors like Big Deal Pizza to supply food for patrons.
The name: "We tossed around a couple ideas, but based on the idea we had to shut the old place down and remodel, that's where we got the idea," Cresswell says.
Coming soon: Cresswell is in the process of getting an entertainment license and hopes to have a live music schedule going by Christmastime. Look for lighter music and jazz.
