Tilt Nightclub and Ultra Lounge, which is celebrating its four-year anniversary in November, is one of downtown Rochester's most diverse spots — and that's exactly what keeps owner Bill Levy going. "It's all races, all persuasions, all ages," he says. "And they all get along. It's a beautiful thing."

The place
Located on Central Avenue in a turn-of-the-century building near the Amtrak station, Tilt is a three-in-one destination. It has a dance club, recently upgraded with new lights and a digital sound system. It has a courtyard with a full bar and its own sound system — a unique feature among upstate New York clubs, according to Levy. And it has an ultra lounge, a low-key area with its own bar, for people looking to relax and talk with friends.

The crowd
It's "so diverse, it's fantastic," says Levy, who has owned bars and nightclubs in the Rochester area for the past three decades.

Full Tilt
The Tilt-a-Whirl drag show on Thursday nights is one of Tilt's most popular attractions. For three years, the club has teamed with radio station 98PXY to host the show. Doors open at 10 p.m. Cover is $2 for ages 21 and older; $10 for ages 18 to 20 with ID.

Saturdays are different
Tilt offers various themes on Saturdays, ranging from film to fashion. Levy also recently upgraded the stage area of the club in hopes of bringing in live music.

No plans for Halloween?
Tilt will host its second annual Exotic Erotic Ball beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. People judged to be wearing the most exotic and erotic costumes each will get $500, and finalists will receive $50 in Tilt bucks, which can be used at the bar or for admission.
