You might not recognize the name Joshua Hergenroder, but you’ve probably seen his face before. Hergenroder, who’s known in Rochester nightlife circles as DJ Kalifornia, is the resident DJ at One every Saturday night.
His stage name comes from his childhood days, which were split between Rochester and California, the 32-year-old says.
Hergenroder is signed with DJ Drop Zone Recording, an independent music label, and has performed at clubs in Philadelphia, New York City and Avalon in Los Angeles.
When he’s not dropping beats for the dance floor, you can find Hergenroder promoting other people through his full-time job at BizWonk, where he works in marketing and public relations.
What are you listening to now? Party Rock, by LMFAO. These guys are everywhere now and are doing a lot of creative things with different artists.

What’s the best show on TV?
So You Think You Can Dance. I’m a junkie for these types of shows because it’s incredible how someone who knows one unique style of dance can learn so many other styles in a few days and show the world that dancing isn’t just one-dimensional.
What’s the last movie you saw?
Paranormal Activity. My girlfriend and I went to see it because it was being hyped up. For it being a low-budget movie, it was entertaining and definitely something to make you cringe over when you hear strange noises at night — especially when home alone.
