Seabreeze Amusement Park
Address: 4600 Culver Road, Irondequoit
Description: The fourth-oldest operating park in the country, is about as "Rochester" as it gets. Rachel Mead, 23, Rochester says the park is a classic. "I can remember screaming on the Jack Rabbit and Gyrosphere every summer when I was a kid," she recalls. If you haven’t been to Seabreeze in some time, though, you’ll find there are a few new treats for the kid in us all.
What’s New? The biggest change to the park this year is the parking lot. "We've upgraded all of our lots and our front entrance admissions booth to make it quicker and easier for folks to get into the park," says John Norris, spokesperson for Seabreeze.
Read: Hassle-free. One thing you may notice missing from the Seabreeze landscape is the Gyrosphere. In its place is the Music Express, a popular new family ride with music and lights.
What’s Old? Who can forget the Jack Rabbit — with its 75-foot drop and dark tunnels? Other park favorites like the Tilt-a-Whirl, Log Flume, Bobsleds and the park’s historic carousel still stand today.
What’s thrilling? If the usual short lines at Seabreeze aren't enough to thrill you, check out the Whirlwind, a steel coaster that takes you forward, backward, sideways and down. Another one of their newer rides, the Screamin’ Eagle, will take you upside-down, suspend you 70-feet mid-air for a few seconds and then bring you back around for more screams.
What’s good? Seabreeze serves up traditional park fare — like Zweigles hot dogs, cotton candy, and pizza — but two new treats stand out this year: churros pastry sticks, (fried dough with cinnamon and sugar and various fillings) and funnel cake fries, a new twist on a Seabreeze classic.
Hours: Weekends through June 24, and daily from June 24 through Labor Day. Click here for a full calendar http://seabreeze.com/events.asp.
Cost: $23.99 for unlimited rides and slides for those over 48 inches tall; $16.99 for unlimited rides and slides after 5 p.m. Parking is free.
Cost-saving tip: Save $2 on an adult pass if you buy tickets online at http://seabreeze.com/store.asp. If you’re going to visit the park more than twice this summer, inquire about a passport – which gives you 15 visits at less than $5 per visit.
