Choose who and what made 2009 memorable in Rochester?

2009 began with one of the most pivotal moments in our nation’s history. The Inauguration of Barack Obama on Jan. 20 set the tone for a year that was both surprising and memorable. Here we ask you, our faithful readers, to look back at the people and events we featured that have shaken up Rochester over the past 12 months.

Some local musicians caught their big breaks. Several artists and business owners reached new heights. And we said goodbye to a club in East End and one of the biggest musical icons of our time.

Now it's your turn to decide who and what stands above the rest. These are the nominees for Metromix's Year-End Awards in eight categories that defined 2009. Vote online at Rochester.Metromix.com beginning Friday, Nov. 30. The results will be revealed on Friday, Dec. 18.

Concert of the Year

Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban Slick Rick, Blink-182 and Rusted Root top the list of nominees

Hottie of the Year

Vote for the Rochester model with the best stuff in '09

Music Artist of the Year

Local nominees include Julia Nunes, The Hoodies, The Sunstreak, Youngbloods and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad

Rochester's Go-Getter of the Year

Nominees includes Ben Scrivens, James Niche, Alan Keppen, Joey Porcaro and Brian Moore

Michael Jackson Tribute at Water Street Music Hall (June 29)

Party of the Year

Nominees include Michael Jackson Tribute, Oscar Party, Ugly Disco, bikini party and Monster Mashup

Party Starter of the Year

Pick either Jon Herbert, DJ Wizz, DJ Dorian, DJ Gweedo or DJ E.T.

Nominees: Gina Smith and Wasim Khaled, Crystal Icing

Trendsetter of the Year

Crystal Icing, Dado, Thread, Embrasse-Moi and KKBB clothing are the nominees

WTF? of the Year

Your options include Summer Jam, Lil Wayne, Two89, Anchor Bar and Uncle Joey

Voting for Metromix's Year End Awards begins Monday, Nov. 30, and runs through midnight Wednesday, Dec. 9.
