On the morning of July 6, Rochester pop-rock band The Sunstreak hit the streets of downtown to shoot the video (check out our gallery)for the new single "Until I Met You." The frantic process served as a microcosm of what band members have been going through lately.
In May, The Sunstreak — lead singer Tony Rebis, guitar/singer David Schuler, drummer Gary Foster, bassist Jason Sarkis and guitarist Jack Flynn — signed to Merovingian Music, a subsidiary of EMI Music Group. The band will hit the road in a few weeks for a cross-country tour, and in September, Merovingian will re-release The Sunstreak's album Once Upon A Lie (which the band released in March on its MySpace page) to national outlets (record stores and digital services including iTunes).
"It's hectic, frustrating and exciting all at the same time," Sarkis says. "Every week, there've been more big happenings." Band members and crew met to begin shooting at 6:30 a.m. at the Centre Park offices of Film Orange, the local production company run by Rochester resident Barry Sonders.
"It's going to be a fun journey," Sonders told band members before shooting began on Park Avenue. There, Rebis acted in scenes that had him driving around in a vintage convertible and shopping with co-star and Rochester native Kristin Vahl, 22. The premise of the video, directed by Josh Horowitz, is about looking back at what things were like before you met the love of your life, Schuler says.
After Park Avenue, the band and crew headed to the top of the High Falls parking garage, where it began to rain heavily. That didn't halt production, though.
At certain points, the rain was so heavy you could see splashes coming from Foster's drums as he banged away. Yet, the guys never complained. As the shoot wound down, members of The Sunstreak seemed just as exited as they did when the day started.
"It's been kind of cool and natural in a way," Foster says. "We got signed and all this stuff started progressively happening out of nowhere. It's been great."
The video for "Until I Met You" is set for an August release.
