A restaurant with a tasting kind of menu cheeses and wines along with bonbons and other desserts has opened in the Neighborhood of the Arts section of Rochester's University Avenue. Chocolate and Vines, 757 University Ave., is patterned after successful restaurants in New York City and on the West Coast, said owners Danielle Lewis and Michael Goldberg. The owners spent 18 months renovating a turn-of-the-century home into the restaurant, which occupies 1,200 square feet on the first floor. Chocolate and Vines is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 11 p.m.

There is a wide selection of pastas, pizza and other Italian favorites here. Management finds a nice balance between upscale and casual Italian. In the Pittsford Plaza, this also is a good place for a glass of wine and appetizer before or after you see a movie next door. The menu has also been expanded to include contemporary and traditional Tuscan dishes, wood-fired pizzas, more small plate antipasto dishes and many California and Italian wines by the glass. Benucci's serves lunch 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and dinner 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The kiosk began serving treats in the early '80s, but closed in 2008 when the plaza ceased operating. The new location's larger space allows for a full restaurant. The Kitchen Keg will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner in addition to Abbott's famous signature frozen custard. There are plans for live entertainment.

This venue is located in the space formerly occupied by Spike's sports bar. The new business has a retro '70 decor with comfortable brown leather couches and padded vinyl bar stools. Because this venue is surrounded by some of Monroe Avenue's most popular eaterys, the owners decided not to get in a food fight. They worked out an arrangement with the restaurants which has food brought over without delivery charges. The electronic jukebox pumps classic rock and there are plans for live bands. The business is owned by Eli Rubin, Leigh Michelow, Luke Stodola, Ruth Blackwell and Andrea Salzman of Rochester and Andrew Langdon of Oakfield, Genesee County.

Yumbo's wasoringally located on Fitzhugh Street but has since moved to 39 W. Main St.
